چکیده
Abstract Zygocycloides ? foerstei n. sp. is described from the Llandovery (Aeronian) Brassfield Formation of southwestern Ohio. This among oldest reported Silurian cyclocystoids North America and only American cyclocystoid that preserved with a complete rim marginal ossicles. Smith Paul, 1982 most similar to Nicholsodiscus Glass et al., 2003 (Katian) Perforocycloides Ewin 2019 (Llandovery, Telychian), both Anticosti Island, Québec. Cyclocystoids (Ordovician Mississippian) survived Late Ordovician extinctions, this discovery documents echinoderm clade was part shallow-water, marine paleocommunities during initial post-extinction transgression onto Laurentian platform. The Distribution and Paleoecological Interpretation of Cornulites in the Waynesville Formation (Upper Ordovician) of Southwestern Ohio
Seventeen species of marine invertebrates collected from the Upper Ordovician Waynesville Formation of southwestern Ohio were found encrusted by Cornulites, a presumed tubicolous annelid worm. Encrustation was interpreted as symbiotic in cases where the cornulitid tubes exhibited preferred orientation upon the exoskeleton of the host. This situation may reflect cornulitid utilization of feeding...
متن کاملThe Geology of Ohio--the Ordovician
To geologists, the Ordovician System of Ohio is probably the most famous of the state's Paleozoic rock systems. The alternating shales and limestones of the upper part of this system crop out in southwestern Ohio in the Cincinnati region and yield an incredible abundance and diversity of well-preserved fossils. Representatives of this fauna reside in museums and private collections throughout t...
متن کاملThe first report of cryptospore assemblages of Late Ordovician in Iran, Ghelli Formation, Eastern Alborz
For the first time, an assemblage of cryptospores, which includes 10 species belonging to nine genera, from the Upper Ordovicianstrata, is being reported, in Iran. These cryptospore assemblages were recovered from the upper part of Ghelli Formation., from theeastern Alborz Mountain range. These peri-Gondwanan cryptospores have been classified based on their morphology (monad, truedyad, pseudody...
متن کاملTiming and dynamics of Late Pleistocene mammal extinctions in southwestern Australia.
Explaining the Late Pleistocene demise of many of the world's larger terrestrial vertebrates is arguably the most enduring and debated topic in Quaternary science. Australia lost >90% of its larger species by around 40 thousand years (ka) ago, but the relative importance of human impacts and increased aridity remains unclear. Resolving the debate has been hampered by a lack of sites spanning th...
